Album story
On Dongmulwon’s debut, On the Street and Changing invite a useful correction to familiar memory. Kim Chang-ki wrote both, but the original insert assigns the vocals to Kim Kwang-seok and Park Ki-young respectively. Returning these songs to a shared album reveals connections that disappear when everything is gathered into one famous singer’s career.
Released on January 15, 1988, the record placed six items on each side. The final Ah! Republic of Korea was explicitly labelled a wholesome song, distinct from the group’s eleven-song programme. The sleeve credits acoustic and electric guitars, piano, synthesizer, bass and drums. Its personnel and changing singers offer a fuller picture than the image of friends gathered around a single acoustic guitar.
Accepting a sketch
Park later recalled sketching a piano part and hearing producer Kim Chang-wan decide to use it. This brief recollection concerns a particular musical choice, rather than a rule that every imperfection is valuable. Listen for how a keyboard part supports a sung sentence without turning into a display of technique. A modest presentation can still result from deliberate decisions about what the song needs.
Writers and singers cross paths
After the opening solo, the insert credits both Yoo Jun-yeol and Kim Kwang-seok on My Love that I could Not Say. Being Forgotten moves to Kim Chang-ki, Star Above the Roof to Yoo, and One Day to Park Kyung-chan. Sometimes writer and singer coincide; sometimes they do not. Following this sequence makes it difficult to describe the album as one protagonist continuously accompanied by everyone else.
Arriving together
Side two places Changing after Secret, then continues through Listen and Longing toward Here We, credited to several members as singers. That group performance gathers the preceding individual songs into another perspective. The appended patriotic track need not be treated as the artistic conclusion of the same narrative. Enter through the familiar opening voice, then follow the successive assignments until the group sings together. Dongmulwon names that whole route, rather than only its most famous participant.
The album through its tracks
Compare Kim Kwang-seok on On the Street with Park Ki-young on Changing, then follow the changing singers through the full sequence.
거리에서
Kim Chang-ki wrote this opening song, sung by Kim Kwang-seok. The approximately four-minute-fifty-seven-second Dongmulwon recording is distinct from Kim’s later solo interpretation on his remake album. Begin with the effect of one voice opening the record, then continue into My Love that I could Not Say, where the credited vocal arrangement changes. The street setting offers a scene of familiar places becoming strange after separation, rather than a prediction of the singer’s entire life. Follow how accompaniment carries a long phrase into the next melody. Recognising a famous vocal colour is only the entrance: the remaining group songs introduce other singers and other ways of sharing the material.

The original insert credits Kim Chang-ki as writer and Park Ki-young as singer of this eighth track. Kim Kwang-seok’s later remake can blur that distinction, but it should not overwrite the debut’s vocal assignment. Running about four minutes forty-five seconds, the song follows Secret on side two. Its movement from personal independence toward change within a relationship need not be judged simply as defeat or maturity. Listen to how the returning refrain compresses the longer preceding statements. Repetition makes a thought memorable without requiring another explanation each time. Beside On the Street, it also shows how two songs by one writer acquire different identities through different singers.
